Truly turning into a toddler!

Marshall has started consistently being a toddler – ie cranky, teething, stubborn, frustrated … he started throwing temper tantrums (mild in comparison to what I’ve heard from some parents) by plopping down on his bum, furrowing his brow and emitting irritable sounds. While we’re learning how to handle these “fits” – it’s still pretty challenging to remain patient as a parent. I find myself saying “no” more than I would like …

He’s also taking more and more tumbles … a few weeks ago he caught his foot going down the slide and took a header onto the protective side rail – the cheek bump turned into a black eye – but he was no worse for the wear! Cool kiddo chillin by the couch all hip-hop. heh. Today he took a header off one of his riding toys – and I’m just waiting for the fall off the chair or the bed (which are his 2 favorite places to climb onto now). Luckily neither is very high … ugh! Daddy and I are working out our “reaction” to these falls – we are trying to heed the warning against running to him everytime he takes a fall … but it’s hard not to! He’s our little dude after all!

In teething – he’s now got 4 teeth on the bottom and top (4th bottom is the most recent), and last week I discovered that 2 of his molars had broken through (NO WONDER HE WAS SO CRANKY!). I’ve been pumping him full of teething tablets, infant tylenol, frozen teethers and frozen fruit – really anything to help relieve the pain!

As we get ready for our 15 month checkup on Wednesday we are faced with yet another parental decision – vaccinations. We will be getting Marshall both the regular flu shot as well as the H1N1 shot … there’s been so much debate about all of these vaccines. Bottom line, both Daddy and I are on the same page.  I totally respect the choices of all the parents we know and love to do what they want with their kiddos. I’m just thankful Casey and I agree on this decision for our little dude!

Marshall's first driving lessonThe only other thing I can remember right now from the last few weeks is last Thursday when Daddy took the afternoon and worked from home. When I got home – Marshall ran out to the car and climbed into my lap in the front seat, took the wheel, turned on the blinker and adjusted the radio … he’s an observant dude!

He’s still walking (well running more at this point) and talking all the time – but I covered most of that in my last post … not much new. He is learning more animal noises (pig is my current favorite) and loves to say airplane (with his hand and the sound) and train (choo choo). We’re looking forward to Fall and perhaps a little pumpkin carving … and of course Halloween!

So much happens everyday – I wish I could be more on top of my posting. I feel like so much has happened in the last few weeks … but honestly right now I can’t even remember it all. Whew.

Til next time …

  1. Dad says:

That’s our little guy! Yes, that header he took off of his little rocket was bad from what I hear. I had just gotten home after it happened, and he was not a happy boy.
