The “Splasher”

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

Ha ha … MJ was dubbed “the splasher” today at swim class!! He’s the oldest kid in our class of 4 and definitely the most enthusiastic about the water. He enjoys swimming so much!! Today  we did a little tummy floating, and lots of activities where he gets to feel and adjust to the water flowing around his body (airplane and backfloats). Then … he did his “swim” (dive under water) with his goggles on over his eyes! And he was showing signs of starting to pull towards surface! Amazing … definitely need to get him in the pool at least one more time during the week!

Kudos to Miss Debbie and the Dolfun Academy. If you’re looking for swim classes in Portland, OR, I recommend her with enthusiasm … and don’t forget to tell her we sent ya!

It’s all happening … so fast!

Marshall is changing and growing SO FAST these days! I feel like everyday he’s a new kid! At our breastfeeding support group this week he weighed in over 19 lbs! He is talking and babbling like a little fool … constantly … and new sounds all the time (though “oooooo” is still his favorite … I think it’s his way of saying “what’s that?” – but who knows!). He’s singing and chatting all the time … “ladedadadadadlalaladadada” … and on Friday at dinner he started flapping his arms like a crazy bird! The waitress called him a bear – whatever he was he has been doing it and Daddy has been doing it back … then he does it to get Daddy to do it back … it’s really quite entertaining!

He’s also getting up on his knees more and more and is SOOOO close to figuring out that he can move his feet and propel himself forward more easily … it’s just a matter of time at this point! We finally have a night time routine and he looks forward to each thing. We start with dinner (he’s a great eater!), the bath (he gets excited to going in the bathroom!), then books with Daddy. Daddy even made up a song, which incites giggles from MJ. After that its time to nurse with Mommy and then to sleep. It’s nice to have a little routine in our lives!

Other than that we had a great week. Swim classes are going great. He loves the time he gets to spend with CJ and Quentin while hanging out with Natalie. Marshall is just an overall happy and curious kid. We love every moment we have with him and are constantly entertained!!

Great week!

As we come up to MJs 7th month birthday … and my *unmentionable* birthday … I’m happy to report that I think we may have one of the “happiest babies on the block”. He is one very happy dude!

This week has been fun! Especially this weekend when little MJ got to spend some quality time with Daddy! On Saturday evening I entered back into the world of Roller Derby by den momming (running the bench) for the Betties (my old team) leaving the boys home to play and romp. And they had fun (as did Mommy). It was nice to catch up with old friends and made me realize that I really do miss being part of such and amazing organization.

Over the weekend little MJ started raising up on his knees! He’s such a strong little dude … he does a full body plank (with an “ooooooooooooo”) and then pulls his knees up under himself. Granted when he wants to move he is back on belly and “army crawling” again … but it won’t belong before our little man is C R A W L I N G!!! I admit … I’m totally NOT ready … MORE BABYPROOFING!!!

Anywho … Marshall also got to spend Monday afternoon with Daddy as well … those boys … they sure do have fun!! He loves his Daddy more than anyone and they laugh … and sing … and dance … I mean I knew his Daddy was goofy … but Marshall brings it to a new level!

He’s also very much enjoying his bath time – and by extension swim classes! He L O V E S the water! Splashes and kicks the whole time. He’s the oldest baby in our class (only by a month) and this week he did another “swim” (dive) and then backfloating (though very squirly). He even did hand stands with Miss Debbie (standing on her hands). She even said that no 7 month old in her memory has ever done that! He’s such an overachiever!

This week we introduced winter squash to his diet … admittedly he likes fruits more than veggies so I cheated and mixed some apples and pears in with the squash and it went down much easier. He didn’t make crazy grimace faces or gag. It’s progress I think!

Looking forward to what happens next with this crazy little dude!
