Left with Rebekka … first time away from Momma and Daddy

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

o today I left Marshall with my friend Rebekka and her daughter Madison (who just turned 4!). Rebekka will be watching MJ in the afternoons when I go back to work in mid-November. So we did a little “trial” run – Momma and Auntie Jackie went and got pedicures and lunch while MJ hung with the Hauskins.

I have to say … it was truly one of the hardest days of my life! I was fine being away from him while we got our feetsies rubbed and polished and filled our tummies with totchos … but I sure missed the little dude! When we went to pick him up – and Rebekka told us what a good little man he was – ate a whole bottle and napped a little … mostly just hung out …

I was of course proud Momma that my little man was so good – but honestly … I was so sad I missed those little things he had done! I realized I will be so sad if I miss a major milestone like walking or his first word! I’ve gotten so used to being with him all the time … I can’t imagine anything else!

It’s going to be very hard going back to work … if and when I do.

Rollin’

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

So … the other day – our little dude rolled from his belly to his back – twice! He got all worked up about being on his tummy that he rolled himself over! I think we were both pretty surprised!!

It was definitely a fluke – he hasn’t really done it since – but the other night I went to check on him and he’d broken his swaddle – cast his blanket to the side and rolled onto his TUMMY!

Ok … totally not ready for that! We need to double our daily tummy time – STAT!

Baby Massage

Friday, September 26th, 2008

We are so lucky here in Portland to have a place called Loving Touch where they certify people in infant massage … and amazingly enough they invite babies and parents in for free to learn so that the folks learning the techniques can see them in practice on real babies.

The first day we brought Daddy with us – he’s so great – he was the only Daddy there and did a wonderful massage on Marshall’s legs which totally relaxed him. On the second day – Marshall slept right through the whole class (guess he really was relaxed) and so did Momma. On the third day we went again and made it through one arm before he nursed and passed out. It didn’t matter really — Momma was able to learn the techniques and purchase a book and some oil and we plan to add it to our daily routine.

Rumor has it that infant massage promotes bonding and attachment, and engages baby’s mind, improves sensory awareness and is stimulating as well as relaxing. Oh and Marshall really likes it (so far)!

Fingers FOUND!

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

Marshall has found his fingers! And he’s a sucking machine. He went through a little transition in the beginning and kept gagging himself (since he’s sucking on his “pointer”) but has gotten it under control now and loudly sucks away …
