So I apologize for being so remiss in updating the blog. So much has happened … it’s hard know where to start.
So we’re at 6 months today. According to BabyCenter BR is growing about 1/4 lb per week – is just over a pound and the length of an ear of corn (just over 1 foot). I can feel movement pretty regularly now. Not everyday – but almost everyday. Still feels like gassy bubbles – no big thrusting kicks to the bladder … yet. I have all the regular symptoms of pregnancy (constipation, gas, cravings, sciatic and joint pain) and I’m close to being so big I can’t put on my own socks. Whew.
It’s completely amazing how quickly the last month has gone by! In a nutshell, here’s a recap:
We celebrated our 3 year anniversary on March 20th. We went for a couple night stay at the McMenamin’s Grand Lodge. We enjoyed lots of grub (including milkshakes for Momma and beers’ for Daddy). I got a massage and we soaked in public tub. It was a short soak (don’t want to cook the babe) but relieved a lot of the pressure I had been feeling on my hips! It was nice to get away – but I realized I really like being at home. I like having access to all my food and comfy bed and kitties. I guess I’m nesting … ? Overall the time away was fun. Daddy and I enjoyed the mini-break – or “Babymoon” as they call it these days.
On March 10th we went in for a 2nd ultrasound – 21 weeks. We got the “all clear” from the Dr. – in fact BR received a “perfect” score on all things being baby – and Momma received an A+ for health at the Dr.s visit the next day. We turned away when the technician went to the “nether” regions – to keep the sex a secret and were fascinated by everything including the heartbeat and lens’ of the eyes. All measurements seemed to be on track. I am still having a very hard time picturing a little person in my belly … But it is very reassuring to know things are progressing nicely. More pics here.
Showers are being planned and with the pressure of “registering” I invited my friend Kim for a short visit to help. She came last week and was a lifesaver!! We ordered a crib (should be here in
a week or two) and a rocker (should be here in 10-12 weeks). We spent a full 2 exhausting hours at Babies R Us – where she helped me register for everything little BR and family will need. Thank GOODNESS she was there – I think I may have had a serious anxiety attack without her!! She was completely level-headed and kept me on track. We stuck to the practical stuff – though did add some cute clothes and blankets to the mix. She said I didn’t smile once the whole time we were there … well maybe once when we sat in the rockers to relax. So most of the registry is done (thank goodness). Still need to decide on bedding and a few other misc. stuff … but overall I’m happy that Babies R Us exists in the world! Daddy and I spent time this weekend trying to clear out part of the room that will probably be nursery … we didn’t get as far as I would like, but I think a garage sale may be needed for that. I am the culprit for sure when it comes to accumulation of stuff … Daddy is much less of a packrat!

It seems that Spring has come … and gone. Spring in Portland is one of the most amazing I’ve experienced! Every day a new cherry blossom or magnolia tree has fully bloomed. It’s gorgeous. In February the blooming began – then last week it got cold again (snow, hail, cold temperatures). Last night we had a few inches of hail – which covered the ground like snow. Totally surreal.
With the crib on the way in the next week or so … and my belly rapidly growing … Daddy and I have our work cut out for us in the next few weeks!
Momma out

So, yes, Tabitha and I have been quite slow in getting more news about Baby Rhodes up on the blog. Since the last post, there has been another doctor’s visit with more ultrasound pics (no, we still have not caved in and discovered the sex of our child). This weekend, we began the slow process of converting the office room into a nursery. In our very tiny bungalow, there’s not much room for decor choices or any fung shui nonsense, so we have to be very smart about how things are arranged (too many trips to IKEA can be dangerous, you know).
