Whew what a weekend

Monday, June 15th, 2009

This weekend was another fun-filled action packed weekend! I had ordered a push car thing for Marshall – a “walker” – and was excited and nervous to see him use it. Finally on Sunday I got up the nerve and with Daddy’s help our boy was off and running … literally … across our small living room. It was fun and scary and amazing to watch him go … he was definitely so excited and Mommy was so nervous about him totally taking a header. But he didn’t … our little dude is so amazing! Here’s a little video

He also got to play on the computer for a bit … OOOO BOY!!

He’s also feeling better … not 100% yet but getting there. The biggest reason I can tell he’s not back to normal is his appetite. Our little Hoover is no longer a little Hoover. He is much more picky about what stays in his mouth … has started spitting out food (yuck) and doesn’t want much. I’m very much hoping that this will pass … in the meantime I accept that he just wants breast milk and cheese.

He’s also making lots of new sounds … “nana” and “th” and “ssss” and “zzzz” … mixing things up and we think maybe saying “cat” or “at” as it’s coming out. It usually starts with “dat” then “at” … Natalie swears he said “cat” and I think I’ve heard it too … funny since my first word was “kitty”. heh.

The other big thing that happened was that after Daddy recovered from the yuck that took everyone out of commission – he was able to join his dragonboat team, the “Splashdragons” for the final race – which they won – taking FIRST in their division!! YAY!!

so many firsts!

So it’s been a while since I’ve written … and my main excuse? well … so much has happened! Marshall is now MOVING – I mean … crawling … and FAST! On March 24th he started pulling up and standing in his crib (ACK!) … and everything changed! He no longer wants to sleep (it’s laying down and he just wants to stand and explore everything). Also no more free time for me while he just hangs out on the floor. It’s a whole new world! May have to break out that pack and play just to shower!

He took his first “crawl” step – up on his knees – at our 8 month photoshoot with Jen on the 21st. He ate his first fingerfoods on the 28th – gerber graduates sweet potato puffs – and now I can’t get him to stop eating them! He has also tackled Organic O’s cereal, bananas, tiny cheese cubes … and we tried avocado (of which he was NOT a fan!).

He’s really starting to imitate us. He barks like our neighbor’s dog – Sal. He’s been doing that for a while – but NOW he’ll stop whatever he’s doing (nursing, eating, playing) to “unh unh” like the puppy. He also started “so big” both on the changing table – and most recently in his high chair – which we’ve been doing since he was born to stretch him out after naps and such.

He’ll chase me through the house (crawling) – and giggles more and more everyday … loves swinging in swings at the park and being outside … and animals! I think I may have finally convinced Daddy we need to get that boy a DOG! We’re shopping … honestly I think we both want one – but who has time for the work involved? Well … we think MJ’s happiness is worth the extra work! So we may have a new family member soon.

What an amazing adventure this little guy is!!

We’re looking forward to a visit with the Rhodes’ family in Texas next week … yee haw!!

6 months

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

Well … skipped a week of blogging, but I think I can make up for it … and still try to stick to my new years resolution. :)

This week was … amazing. Marshall turned 6 months old on the same day that Barack Obama took office as our new president.  I don’t usually let MJ watch TV … but this day was a special occasion. On this day, America welcomed change in the form a new president — one who brings with him hope for our futures (if  his first few days in office are any indication) and hopefully much positive change for this country. It also marks a moment in history, as he is the first black president to take office here in the US. An amazing day for MJ to turn 1/2 year old …

Marshall actually took little interest in the happenings on TV. However, this week has been filled with lots of ooooo ooooo’s … and singing along to everything. So when Aretha came on to sing God Bless America – Marshall of course sang along.  Yes … it brought tears to my eyes.

The past two weeks have been filled lots of firsts … first peas (tonite), pulling himself along the floor a little (mostly to get to Mommy and/or the kitties), pulling his knees up under himself and the nanny claims he was up on all fours rocking (but we haven’t seen it first hand yet though). I’ve also been bringing him into bed with me in the mornings — cuz I’m usually quite tired still and it’s such a wonderful feeling to have him fall asleep next to me. At night and for other naps he’s still in the crib (which we just lowered the mattress on) … but I’m enjoying his cute cuddliness nonetheless.

On Friday we had our 6 month well-baby checkup. All’s well — MJ is 18 lbs 7.1 oz, 26.5 inches long and his head is 44 cm around … he’s right in the middle of the “percentages” for all things … and tracking pretty much as he has his whole life. Overall … life is good in our household. Today and yesterday have been a little terrible — a couple of major pukes for the baby and a slight fever. According to the docs … all normal after vaccinations.

Posting pics soon from 5 month and 6 month photo shoots … as soon as I find time!
