The other night as I was putting Marshall to bed he said “Mommy I have a secret to tell you.”
Anxious to hear this juicy tidbit I lent him my ear. He moved in close and whispered quiety “Who’s Yoda?”

If you’ve been around me over the last six or so months, you probably know that my life is pretty consumed by “PDX Kids Calendar” … a website I’ve been working on. It was designed by Daddy – we have tshirts – I work on it enough that Marshall recognizes a lot of things from it. He has even learned my phone number from me leaving messages for people on their voicemails … and I really don’t make that many phone calls!
Today he said to me that he had a train. When I asked him for more details he said it was the “PDX Kids Calendar train” … I sort of chuckled. So I asked him what it carried and where it was going? He said “It carries my schedule along. It also carries your calendar along.”
Sometimes I think I operate as if he won’t understand something – cuz he’s really only 3 – but the reality is that this kid is QUICK! He gets a lot more than I think. All the time!
Today when we walked into Costco we were excited to discover Western Chief rainboots … Marshall had the choice between green frogs, red ladybugs, black firefighter and pink butterflies. Guess which ones he chose.
Every since we got Marshall undies that have the days of the week on them, he’s been curious about what day it is. He has a firm grasp that Friday means one more day til Saturday. And Saturday means that Daddy doesn’t go to work and stays home to play (YAY!). The same happens on Sundays but as far as I can tell it’s not quite as important as Saturday in his mind.
This week, every day he’s asked me what day it is.
Monday: “What day is it today?” “It’s Monday.” “What happens on Mondays?” “Well … we get to choose whatever we want on Mondays. Today a few of our friends are going to the Pumpkin Patch … would you like to go to the pumpkin patch?” “Yes. I would!” and off we went.
Tuesday: “What day is it today?” “Tuesday” “What do we do on Tuesday?” “We get to go to school today!” (insert fun song about all the fun activities and friends at school here)
Wednesday: “What day is it today? Is it Threesday?” “Huh?” “Is it Threesday?” “Um … well … actually it’s Wednesday.” confused looks all around. Then I got it! “Hmmm … if today is Threesday day – what’s tomorrow?” “Foursday!”
Ah the joys of a young mind!
